Durand Area Schools Early Childhood Education and Services operates a preschool program for both 3 year olds and 4 year olds.
  • 3 Year Olds (L'il Engineers)
    L'il Engineers is the name of the preschool program for 3 year olds.  It is a tuition-based program where all proceeds go directly back into the operation of the program.  Financial assistance is available.  L'il Engineers is housed at Bertha Neal Elementary School

     in the City of Durand.  It runs Tuesday through Thursday, usually in the morning, when regular school is in session.  The program is taught by two trained professionals in the Early Childhood Development field.  Children must be 3 years old by December 1st and must be potty trained.

  • 4 Year Old Program
    4 year old preschool is also housed at Bertha Neal Elementary School

    in Durand.  There are three 4-year old classrooms in Bertha Neal and the program is staffed with certified teachers with Early Childhood Education endorsements.  There is also a certified teacher aide in each classroom to assist the teacher.  The 4 year old program consists of tuition paid and scholarship* students.  The preschool is in session Monday through Thursday with AM , PM  and Full day sessions.

*The preschool program participates in the Michigan Department of Education Early Childhood Programs. The Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) is a grant from the state that offers free preschool to at-risk 4 year olds.
